I realize this isn't an original idea but I had to do it. Made for challenge #10 at

WARNING: not dial-up friendly. Spoilers for both shows

Newport vs. The Upper East Side

Bitchy gossips, fancy balls and rich kids.
The People

Ryan Atwood = Dan Humphrey
The Outsider. Both punch someone in the pilot. Date the golden girl.
"Ryan: You know what I like about rich kids? [hits Luke] Nothing."
~
"Chuck: This isn't over.
Dan: Hey, any time man. That one black eye looks a little lonely."

Seth Cohen = Dan
But there's also a little bit of Seth in Dan too, with the whiney neuroses and broody judgmental-ness.

Marissa Cooper = Serena Van der Woodsen
The Golden Girl. Drinking problems. Rebellious. Issues with their mothers.
"Julie Cooper-Nichol: I'll take your fugitive former flame and raise you a lesbian daughter"
~
"Lily van der Woodsen: Well, if Serena's indiscretions were as PG as Jenny's, I wouldn't have needed the botox. "

Summer Roberts = Blair Waldorf
"Chino? ew" ~ "ugh, Brooklyn"
But mostly I think its...

Julie Cooper = Blair Waldorf
Julie "This town's only big enough for one manipulative bitch."
~
Blair "Haven't you heard? I'm the crazy bitch around here."

Luke Ward = Nate Archibald
Both cheat on the girls they've dated forever. Have a tawdry affair with an older woman. And they both stand by their dad's after they disappoint them (Luke after his dad comes out, Nate after his dad attempts suicide.)

Sandy Cohen = Rufus Humphrey
The 'Cool Dad'. Laid-back liberal character. The yoda for seemingly every other character on the show. A background with music. .
"Sandy: Do you want to know what I think?
Ryan: You're going to tell me either way, right?
Sandy: Like my own son."
~
"Rufus: Guess whose dad is cool.
Jenny: It's a trick question.
Dan: Yeah, 'cause it can't be ours."

Kirsten Cohen = Lily Van der Woodsen
The WASP-y Ice Queen. Disaproves of the outsider character at first. Issues with their father/mother. A rebellious youth.
"Sandy: When you were 22 what did you say? You said you'd never be like your parents, you'd never have their life.
Kirsten: I was 22. I stank of patchouli and I lived in the back of mail truck.
Sandy: And you were fun. And you married me. "
~
"Lily: I'm not staying long. I'd like to get out of here before someone throws me down and tattoos me.
Rufus: This is Brooklyn, Lil, not the Warped Tour. And don't tell me you had all your tattoos removed, not even the little heart-shaped one between your...?"

Caleb Nichol = Bart Bass
Rich businessmen (both made their fortune in real estate.) Scary faces that never smile and would be terrifying if they did. Married characters who could be classified as after their pockets if one was so inclined. And they both died in the process of seperating from these wives (only to have them move on inappropriatley quickly.)

Jimmy Cooper v= Howard 'The Captain' Archibald
The Embezzler. (And they both eventually decide to run off to live on an island, both using the claim that they will be a better father that way.)

Kaitlin Cooper = Jenny Humphrey
Formerly sweet and innocent little sister turned devious manipulator.

Theresa = Vanessa
The girl from the outsider's past.

Oliver = Georgina
Both manage to somehow blind the object of their creepy stalker affections/schemes that they are the crazypants mayor of Psycho Town.
(Also: Oliver dancing around the room tossing pills about with glee is perhaps one of my favorite lol moments on tv)
The Relationships

Luke/Marissa = Nate/Blair
The couple that have been together forever (which everyone seems to feel the need to point out.) He cheats. They sleep together for the first time because she's trying to forget about another guy.
"Ryan: So how long you been with him?
Marissa: Luke? Um... I don't know really.
Seth: I know. Fifth grade, when you two got your mack on during our class trip to the Museum of Tolerance. Back of the bus. Classy lady. "
~
"Chuck: You guys have been dating since Kindergarten and you haven't sealed the deal?"

Ryan/Marissa = Dan/Serena
The Golden girl and The Outsider. They make up, they break up... over and over again... without ever dealing with why.
"Ryan: Look, I don't know, I... I... I guess I was hoping this could be easy. For you and me to stay friends. For you and Lindsay to be friends.
Marissa: And have us all live happily ever after?
Ryan: Yeah, something like that.
Marissa: I know, it seems like a million years ago we dated, but it wasn't.
Ryan: I know that.
Marissa: And okay, maybe you're over it. Maybe it doesn't mean anything to you anymore. Maybe it never did. But it meant a lot to me. You meant a lot to me. Still do. "
~
"Serena: Classy? Like you asking another girl out on the first day of school?
Dan: We were broken up
Serena: So what dan it hurt! what did you expect? I loved you. And just because we broke up doesn't mean I could just turn it off like that.
Dan: Maybe we should stay away from each other for awhile."

Jimmy/Kirsten = Rufus/Lily
The parents with a history whose children start dating (Ryan is so Kirsten's son)
"Jimmy: Did you ever think this would be our lives?
Kirsten: Is Marissa back yet?
Jimmy: Oh, well, she usually stays out pretty late.
Kirsten: Well Seth never goes out.
Jimmy: Don't worry. I'm sure they're not doing anything we didn't do. "
~
"Rufus: I dated a girl like Serena, once. Actually a lot like Serena. And girls like that might be challenging. That's true. And they're complicated, and enigmatic. And usually worth it. And the only way you know for sure is to jump it with both feet.
Dan: What happened with you?
Rufus: I swam for a while. Till I drowned."
And

The great escape from the psych ward...

Mothers and Daughters...
Why is it that every mother on both shows with the possible exception of Kirsten all seem to be so very dysfunctional and judgmental? Are there some mother issues in the writers room?
And last but not least, while I couldn't include them I couldn't leave them out either...

Taylor and Chuck = awesome
